The Altimeter for Android is a highly popular app that has garnered numerous downloads. One of its standout features is that it does not require an internet connection to function.

One key feature of this app is its ability to estimate altitude using three different methods. This ensures that users can always obtain accurate measurements, even when offline. Additionally, the app provides historical charts that allow users to track their elevation gain during excursions.

Altitude estimation can be achieved in three ways:

<li>Satellite triangulation: Although relatively slower and less accurate, this method still functions even without an internet connection.</li>
<li>Taking ground elevation from a global elevation map: This method utilizes the device's current position to determine altitude.</li>
<li>Using the device's pressure sensor: If available, the app calibrates itself using data from the nearest weather station to improve accuracy.</li>
</ol>

In addition to its primary features, the Altimeter for Android offers several PRO features. These include compensating systematic errors in the pressure sensor, downloading larger areas of the global elevation map, recording altitude without opening the app, and unlimited elevation picking on the map. Moreover, users can enjoy an ad-free experience.
